Media Works was incorporated in Texas on August 2, 1989, under the name First Take Productions, Inc, and has been doing business as Media Works since the mid-1990's.

Kim

Back then, Kim was employed by General Electric Computer Service, as an account manager for companies such as American Airlines, General Dynamics and Nortel. Her job was to ensure total customer satisfaction with regards to third-party computer service on mainframes, desktops, and all other peripheral technical equipment. Prior to that, she had worked for Motorola as a main frame computer operator and Tektronix as a Customer Service Representative. Kim still pulls her hair out over customer computer problems to this day.

Tony

Tony's electronics experience began in the U.S. Navy where he trained on the world's first computerized sonar system. In the late 1980's, he returned to The University of North Texas to complete his degree in Radio/TV/Film, and graduated in the Fall of 1990 with a BA in Communications. His electronics experience, coupled with his knowledge of sound and video is the major driving force of Media Works as it is known today. Tony will also grouse at you for mucking up your computer with poor power filtering or unsavory internet surfing.

The initial goal was to provide corporate video and marketing services for small businesses. They were based in Lake Dallas, Texas at that time.

During that time, First Take Productions created several corporate programs, including a marketing video for GE Computer Service, an instructional video for Computap, a computerized beer tap manufacturer, and a demonstration video for Boltervision, one of the earliest video conferencing systems.

In September of 1990, Kim and Tony relocated to Kim's home town of Forestburg, Texas, and began marketing their services in the North Central Texas area.

One of their first projects was "Basic Pond Management", a video about building ponds and raising trophy bass. It was the most fun video Kim and Tony have ever made. Kim wrote the script, Tony shot the footage - he got to travel all over Texas - and Kim edited the final program. That was back in 1992, and "Basic Pond Management" is still a hit.

They also developed a large library of marketing and installation training videos for a plastics manufacturer in Gainesville, Texas, which helped the customer get new accounts and expand their sales. This soon created a need for computerization of quotes, work orders and invoicing. Once again, Kim and Tony provided solutions for their growing business, by building, installing and networking a small group of computers for the sales and accounting teams, and then creating a custom program to run their business with.

Kim and Tony, with the addition of Sharlene Welch in 2004, have been providing computer sales, service and technical support ever since.

Sharlene

Sharlene is a very special person - she has the patience of Job to deal with computer hardware and software failures. Her specialties include rebuilding corrupt operating systems, backing up and restoring your important data, (either business or personal), getting rid of spyware and viruses. She also designs, builds and maintains a variety of web pages. Media Works is very fortunate to have Sharlene on board.
